What a Trip!

We had a great time on the Styx River trip! The weather was extremely cooperative. It never rained a drop!

This is a picture of the only rapid on the river, which happens to also be the only rapid in south Alabama!

The "long trip" was no problem. After a slow start this morning I was afraid the four children we had with us would give out but they hung in there the whole time and had a blast.

When we met up with the tubers at the seven mile mark thing got a little crowded, but everyone was friendly and easy going so we had no problems.

I am going to give a more detailed trip report later, but for now consider the trip a success!

Wow! What a beautiful day. Will Mastin and his three girls are out
here with Kelley and me! We are having a great time!

Rain Go Away!

The forecast does not look good for our Styx River trip: 80% chance of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Nevertheless, this is a typical summertime forecast for South Alabama and we know that means patchy hit-or-miss conditions. Of course it is the "hit" part we are worried about, especially with children coming along.

I am going to be at the outfitter at 9:30 this morning regardless. If conditions look bad we may scrap the trip for another day or we could take the short 4 mile trip. I am hopeful it will turn out to be a nice day!

Styx River Trip Plan Update

We are going to have a good trip! We are meeting at Styx River Canoe
at 9:30am on Saturday.

I have decided not to haul my boat out there since the outfitter will
do all the work. If you would like to bring your boat that is fine
but be prepared to pay for a shuttle. There is no secure parking at
the put-in so an outfitter shuttle is the only way to go.

I will post more details including directions and rental rates shortly!
