What Happened to the Pier

The pier was there, going nowhere,
when we were visiting for no reason.
Storms had blown and it had been rebuilt before.
What happened to the pier, the town, the people?
To the children who ran when Dad said walk?
To the men with buckets and nets and hopes for dinner?
To the long walk with no destination?

There when you snapped that picture with the ole' SLR, I saw the same pier, differently. I was distracted. Now I see it through your eyes. At the time, it did not sink in to me, how odd it was, how it ended as it did. Poof. Good questions. I wonder...

Andrew, what a lovely poem to go with a lovely picture! I'm delighted to learn of this additional talent you possess. I'm really not surprised, considering what a creative child you were. Keep them coming! Love.....
